iPod jack & dock GND
« on: November 07, 2009, 18:59:26 »
Hi,

I'm new to this forum but have been using the pinouts for a while - great site.
I've now got a question though which I hope hasn't been asked before; I did a search but couldn't find anything so:

Is it possible to connect the headphone jack's GND and the dock connector's GND, without causing damage?

Thanks in advance for any help,
David.

Ok. I tryed it. It doesn't work. Doesn't seem to do any damage but the headphone switches off as soon as the grounds are connected. :/

I was trying to fix an iPod. The left headphone had stopped working. I investigated the circuitry to the jack and it wasn't the problem so it had to be the chip leading up to the headphones. I obviously couldn't do anything for that so I decided I'd just try.to connect the dock audio output to the headphone connector. That meant connecting the two grounds together and as I've discovered it doesn't work so the iPod is effectively a gonner :/
Anyway, thanks loads for showing a bit of interest :)
