Hy! As i know this is not an adapter, there is no any tricky, all pinouts are same functions, just smaller.
i suggest that, let's cut at middle an 2,5 cable and an normal IDE cable, and connect cables each by each.

looking at the hard drive, where the key pin is on the bottom, go to the left side, power plugs in there. ground on top.

sorry... sorry... ignore the one on top, i wrote it up backwards.
this is correct:

melcy is completely wrong, do NOT use that pinout.  the extra 4 pins on the end are two +5v, one ground, and one not connected.  look up the individual pinouts.  all toher pins are identical
