Title: Ipod connector help needed!
Post by: Boulderguy on Mar 04, 2005, 02:52
Have connected my Ipod to the car stereo thru an Alpine CD player.  The CD player sees the Ipod as a CD changer.  My only problem is that the interface (dock connector) somehow "locks" the Ipod display & touchpad so that you have to control it thru the CD player - a huge PITA.  Is there some way to unlock it?

I have another dock connector that plugs into the cig lighter & the Ipod, providing an amplified output w/o using the headphone jack on the Ipod, and it doesn't lock the controls, so it must be possible.  Help - any ideas welcome!

Alex.

The iPod audio output, like rs232 remote lines are available from the dock or from the upper connectors.
If you drive the iPod via  Apple Remote Protocol (by RS232), the iPod controls are locked. The other dock connector you have doesn't use the RS232 commands, but only the audio input.
