Title: ADB to USB
Post by: scottyparade on Sep 18, 2006, 23:24
I'm attempting to take a barcode scanner that has an ADB output, and wire it to a USB port. I've found pinouts for the two formats, but a simple splice isn't doing the trick. Am I stuck with buying an adapter to make this conversion happen?

The data formats between ADB and USB are different. ADB uses a single signal wire, while USB uses a differential format. The data rate for USB is also much higher than ADB. You'd need a controller chip to convert the signals. Unless you know you can program a controller to do the job correctly, you'd probably be better off hunting for a pre-built adaptor.
