Two connectors are used - with 3 pins and with 2 pins.
This image belongs to my HONDA CIVIC FASTBACK Gen VI 1.5i VTEC year 1997, D15Z8 engine. The car was.assembled in UK. The pugs are hidden, placed in the right side under the gloves-box, passenger's feet well.
To use an OBD2A 16 pins plug I have to built a cable with
pin 1 --> pin 5 (maybe chassis --> pin 4 externally); pin 2 --> pin 16; pin 5 --> pin 7, regarding first the 5 pins plugs and then the 16 pins plug. By now, forget pins 3 and 4 of 5 pins plug by now, because they deal with ABS and not even every models have brakes with ABS system.
In a car with 3+2 pins plugs, 1 --> 5; 2 --> 16 and 3 --> 7, regarding first the 3 pins and then the 16 pins plugs
