2009-05-15 17:26:07 | rev. 2 | CORRECT | this is how the controller i have is wired, i dont have a sms, just a couple of the controllers, they work well on most other machine with this pinout (atari etc) | APPROVED |
2009-08-01 12:39:20 | rev. 2 | INCORRECT | This isn't correct, because there's a MegaDrive with 7 keys (MegaDrive 2 default joypad, but works with MegaDrive 1) that is multiplexed, and uses the same connector. | APPROVED |
2010-02-11 18:46:35 | rev. 2 | CORRECT | verified on an Sega SMS controller, Model 3020. with the exception that 5 is also N/C | APPROVED |
2013-05-22 01:35:46 | rev. 2 | ERROR FIXED | The Sega Master system does not have an explicit power pin. Pin 5 is not attached on the SMS controller. Every single pin except for ground is connected to a power source. When the button or direction is pressed, a circuit is completed, and the current is drawn to the ground. This causes a drop in voltage which is read as a 0, low, or false on the system end. Inverse digital logic is used to make this low signal produce an action associated with the button. Trust me, I wired up a 9 pin d-sub and hooked one up to my Raspberry Pi. The Genesis does have a power pin because there is an on board chip that controls a switch for determining the pin value. some pins are mutliplexed. However, there are no on board chips which require a power source on the SMS controller. Hence, there is no power pin. | APPROVED |
