The SFF-8088 is compliant with the latest 6Gb/s Mini-SAS 2.0 spec, and supports 6Gb/s data transfer protocol. The SFF-8088’s Mini-SAS internal counterpart is the SFF-8087.

A SAS 4x receptacle connector may be used by one or more SAS devices (e.g., one SAS device using
physical links 0 and 3, another using physical link 1, and a third using physical link 2). A SAS 4x receptacle connector shall be used by no more than one expander device at a time, and all physical links shall be used by the same expander port.
The Mini SAS 4x cable plug connector include key slots to allow attachment to a Mini SAS 4x receptacle connector with matching keys.
